The New York Times reported on March 28, 2022, that the Shanghai government announced on the evening of the 27th that it would rotate a new round of lockdowns throughout the city in order to launch nucleic acid testing on 26 million people. The restrictive measures and mass testing will start on Monday morning in the Pudong area and last until April 1st. Restrictions and testing will begin on April 1 and last until April 5 in the Puxi area. According to the announcement, all citizens will be prohibited from leaving their neighborhoods, except for those providing basic and public services. Non-essential businesses and transportation will also cease operations.
