Shanghai Observer News | Forced in-home disinfection in Xichengli, Huangpu District, Shanghai? Official response: Conducted with residents’ consent as a prerequisite

On the evening of May 9, online rumors emerged alleging that compulsory in-home disinfection was being conducted in Xichengli, Huaihai Middle Road Subdistrict, Huangpu District, Shanghai, which caused concern among residents.

On May 10, in response to inquiries from journalists, Huangpu District authorities clarified that, based on municipal and district pandemic prevention requirements, Huaihai Middle Road Subdistrict was carrying out disinfection of public areas and hallways in key locations such as Xichengli. In-home disinfection could be conducted only after consulting and obtaining the consent of residents. The specific disinfection work is carried out by professional agencies. To facilitate the hallway disinfection process, supporting facilities have been specially prepared for residents to rest by the roadside. There are absolutely no instances of forced entry or compulsory in-home disinfection by the subdistrict authorities
