On May 31st, multiple residential compounds in Shanghai celebrated the upcoming end of the lockdown. In Tongfang Jincheng (Section B), residents gathered to sing and dance in celebration. In other compounds, residents marked the occasion by waving the national flag and singing patriotic songs such as “Ode to the Motherland.” However, while some neighborhoods were celebrating, the Jinghuayuan compound in Shanghai’s Jing’an District was placed under lockdown again on the same day after a positive COVID-19 case was detected—“relocked before it was even fully reopened.”
