Zheng Zhe from Putuo District unexpectedly organized his first group purchase on March 20. Later, he was invited by the neighborhood committee to take on a bigger role, transforming from the WeChat group leader organizing purchases for 200 people to the person in charge of procuring essential supplies for the entire community of 4,000 residents. During the group buying process, he faced losses from transaction fees, requisitioned supplies, unexpected unloading of goods late at night, and also fought for compensation after some vegetable packages were found to be defective. Having grown up in the alleyways himself, he hopes that through this group buying effort, a new kind of neighborhood relationship will emerge, making the community more united.
