During the Shanghai lockdown, many patients with chronic illnesses who required long-term medication faced the looming threat of running out of their prescriptions. With hospitals and pharmacies unable to meet the demand, more people had no choice but to seek help online. In response, volunteers in Shanghai spontaneously organized online mutual aid groups or created help-request websites. They answered phone calls, compiled spreadsheets, gathered information, verified sources, and delivered medications—doing all they could to get the medicine into patients’ hands.
