During Shanghai’s lockdown, author Wang Zhanhei witnessed a neighbor’s suicide by jumping from a building. At the end of 2022, she wrote a short story reflecting on the lockdown experience. Initially published on Douban, the story was later deleted due to censorship. It was subsequently included in her short story collection, Normal Contact, published in the summer of 2024.
