This is a story from a resettlement housing compound in Pudong, Shanghai. The 60-year-old Xu Zhengfeng was facing multiple challenges: caring for his 92-year-old bedridden mother together with his 64-year-old brother, while also suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure due to a lack of medication. The three elderly family members were quarantined at home, where problems kept arising. As their five-day food supply was about to run out, they all tested positive for COVID-19. The compound has more than 4,000 residents, over half of whom are over 60 years old, including more than 100 who live alone.
