In an old Shanghai neighborhood with over 2,000 residents, I started a group to help ourselves.

On the fifth day of lockdown, the author created a mutual aid group in their old Shanghai residential compound, which houses over 2,000 people. However, as group-buying methods shifted, volunteers came and went, and the neighborhood committee became increasingly absent, the group began to fall into disorder even while trying to help itself. This led the author to question their decision—wondering if starting the group had been a mistake in the first place.
