In a Shanghai neighborhood, a resident was seen throwing live fish on the street outside the residential gate. According to the local neighborhood committee, live fish were prohibited from entering the compound, and the group-buying organizer had declared the delivery as chilled fish instead.

A viral video shows someone smashing live fish to death by hand at the entrance of a residential compound in Shanghai. Upon verification, the compound is located in Dahua Yangcheng Garden, Jing'an District. A staff member from the Yangcheng Neighborhood Committee in Pengpu Town, Jing'an District, explained that the live fish were purchased through a group buy organized by residents. The group leader had previously reported cold fresh fish; if live fish had been reported, the committee would not have approved the purchase. The group leader knew live fish were not allowed into the compound, so they killed the fish at the entrance before bringing them inside.
