If the term “COVID-free community” is defined as an “honor,” then patients are inevitably burdened with an unreasonable moral stigma, which in turn leads to unnecessary discrimination. Moreover, even being labeled a “COVID-free community” doesn’t mean residents are allowed to leave their homes. It carries no practical significance whatsoever. Neither a symbolic honor nor a functional guideline, the “COVID-free community” designation has, in practice, become a flashpoint for conflict, sparking numerous disputes between residents and community workers.
