Workers’ Mutual Aid | How We Managed to Get Meals

Through investigation and interviews, the author found that many workers in the Che Dun area of Songjiang, just as they were about to find jobs, were hit by the lockdown, cutting off their income. Living in shared rental rooms, they had no money to buy food and no access to community supplies. This situation may affect thousands or even tens of thousands of people, and workers across different areas faced similar difficulties, such as being unable to buy groceries (no community group purchases, community supplies unavailable to them, obstruction or shirking by neighborhood committees or landlords, not included in community groups, few group-buying opportunities, no savings, or even lacking cooking utensils) and being unable to pay rent.
